Dr. Shirley Tucker received her PhD from UC Davis, where she took classes from Cheadle, the former UCSB Chancellor. She was a professor at Louisiana State University for 30 years before retiring to Santa Barbara. Dr. Tucker continued her research at UCSB and at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, and she created the Lichen Collection at UCSB as a teaching collection for UCSB students and the community. Dr. Tucker continues to support CCBER’s collections and many other collections through her outreach and dedication to botanical systematics and taxonomy.
